Silver Medal

I remember reading a headline in 2022, pointing out that Mexico had increased its femicide rate to 10 daily, thus placing it in second place of all Latinamerica, proportional to its population number.

I felt like living as a woman in Mexico is a gamble, like a coin flip, and either side it lands on it’s painful. That the $10 peso coins are heavy, valuable and expendable. That also Mexico is used to winning silver medals in the olympics, and now we carry that silver medal. Medals in its origins resembled actual coins.

Mi intention with this piece is of iconoclastic (a rejection of inherited traditions and the authority of the symbols they represent).
